Have you ever heard of a swimming pool with Salt Water in it? Do these cost more? What are they like?

I would like a small swimming pool in my backyard. I have not decided whether to get an inground or an above-ground pool.

A friend mentioned swimming pools with 'salt water' systems?

What's this all about? Do they make them?

Are they cheaper and easier to maintain? That would certainly be a bonus. I would love something that is less costly and less time consuming to maintain.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

swimming pool salt water with chlorine water?

I have a swimming poo and a spa. I emptied the spa to acid wash, but by filling it back until I filled it with water from the pool to forget that the pool water has salt, because I have an AQ-rite salt generator in the pool and I the water treated at the Spa with chlorine tabs. Could it be a problem if I have water with salt in the spa and my real chlorinator uses chlorine tabs?

8 Reasons Why Ecosmarte is Preferred By Pool Owners Over Salt Water Pools

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 02-05-2010-05-2008

    0

    1. Swimmers prefer the feel and taste of water treated with the ECOsmarte system over salt water pools by an overwhelming margin.

    2. ECOsmarte systems work within a calcium hardness range of 200-2,000ppm. Because it converts calcium to bicarbonate, the ECOsmarte will eliminate and prevent calcium scaling on pool walls and rock features. Salt water pools do not control calcium scaling and will only work within a calcium range of 200-400 ppm.

    3. Since salt water pool systems produce chlorine, the sanitizing effectiveness of the system is impacted by changes in temperature, bather load, sunlight and rainfall. Changes in any of these factors may require additional "shocking" of the water to prevent an algae outbreak. The effectiveness of Ecosmarte is not significantly affected by these factors. An ECOsmarte owner does not have to be concerned about doing anything different to treat their pool if they have 20 kids in the pool all day. The pool water will still provide bacterial and algae protection for a full week or more.

    4. Vinyl liners, automated pool covers and solar covers may become damaged from the use of chlorine or salt water pool systems. Since the ECOsmarte system does not require the use of harmful oxidizing chemicals, these expensive pool components can be expected to last their normal life expectancy.

    5. Salt water pool systems will use an average of 500 watts of AC power for a 20,000 gallon pool. ECOsmarte systems will use an average of only 40 watts of DC power to treat the same amount of water.

    6. Salt water pool systems and the ECOsmarte system both use a chamber in their process. The difference is that a salt water pool system's cell may need to be replaced in 3-5 years at a cost of over $400. The copper bars in the ECOsmarte chamber cost less than $100 to replace and they should last 4-7 years. The ECOsmarte chamber is warranted for 5 years and should last indefinitely.

    7. The backwash discharge from an ECOsmarte treated pool is safe for use on lawns and in gardens since it does not contain any salt or sodium. Backwash from pools treated with salt water systems can kill plant life, sterilize soil preventing plant growth and is prohibited in many municipalities in the United States and Australia (where salt water systems were invented).

    8. ECOsmarte offers six days per week of toll-free support at 1-800-ION SWIM to consumers, dealers and service personnel. No such support is available by any manufacturer of salt water pools being sold in the United States.

An ionic water cleaning system with copper ions and including a natural oxygen-oxidation is one such method that purifies your pool water. How a Swimming Pool Salt Chlorinator Works

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 01-05-2010-05-2008

          0

Today's swimming pools can be sanitized using a system that converts standard table salt into sodium hypo chloride. Salt chlorinators are systems that accomplish this and provide for a crystal blue sparkling pool.

Pure sanitizer being added to the pool

Sanitizer is being added on a regular basis (daily)

pH neutral chlorine is being produced, helps keep the pool and spa pH in balance

Softer silky water to swim in

No need to store dangerous chemicals

So how do theses units work? The Salt chlorinator is installed close to the filter and pump location. There is an inline "cell" which is installed in the piping and power box which is installed on the wall of the home. When the pool or spa pump is running, pool water is sent through an inline cell and the salt in the pool water is converted into sodium hypo chloride. (chlorine or sanitizer) The sanitizer flows back to the body of the pool and the process continues over and over again. The power box or power supply is electrically connected to the inline cell and controls the amount of time and output of the pool sanitizer.

How much salt will need to be added to the pool? The amount of salt that will be added to the pool will depend on the total gallons of the pool and or spa. Each unit will come with an instruction booklet to advise the amount of salt to add based the amount of gallons of water in the pool. Most units will require 3000 parts per million of salt in the pool

(reference point - ocean water = approximately 35,000 parts per million of salt)

How often will salt need to be added to the pool? The salt in the pool water does not get used up but during normal evaporation and pool water splash out a certain amount of salt will be lost. The amount of salt which will need to be replenished will depend on both of these factors.

Is this a special type of salt?
No, This is regular table salt which can be purchased in a variety of locations.

What other chemicals will need to be added to the pool?
All the other chemicals which are normally added to a pool and or spa will continue to be added, chemicals which control pH, alkalinity, hardness and stabilizer.

What type of different features do these units have?
There are many different brands and models of salt chlorinators on the market today. Each manufacture has several models with a variety of different features. Features which can be found are:

Automatic salt sensors - displays the amount of salt in the pool

          Pool water temperature readout

Automatic shut off of unit if the salt level in the pool becomes to low

Built in time clocks for pump control

Digital readouts vs. , manual dials

Boost modes - allows for adding additional sanitizer to the pool

So, is a salt chlorinator necessary for today's swimming pool and spa environments? These units produce the sanitizer needed to keep your pool and spa crystal clear and a health place to enjoy. By installing a salt chlorinator the correct amount of sanitizer can be added to the pool each day. Keeping the correct amount of sanitizer in your pool and spa at all times will make for a much happier swimming pool owner.
